Great to see the video, Rough Rider ... the site of my first off!

Bring It On, you are doing a masterful job with this ride report!

Can't remember this place that we stopped @ for lunch,.... but I do know we waited quite a while for our chow. I have to admit though,.... the food was pretty cool. ;) :thumleft:

A few shot I have of our "Food Pit Stop" ;D

Would be Gr8 to see some of these photos from Doug's phone ;)

Thank you, Shaun!

Fortunately, for the first fall I came down on soft sand. Not so for the second off ... but more on that later!

That sure was a nasty fall indeed   .... but also very lucky. I have footage of that as we approached you. Will post it tomorrow ;)

Ok.... let's get some more photos going here in this RR :ricky:.....

After quite a long lunch break, we headed out of Clanwilliam in the direction of Citusdal, along the very nice gravel road running all along the Dam. Some more screenshots of us doing some nice "Gravel Travel". Unfortunatley none of Murdock, RR & Mambat here...... these boys were playing way too nicely up front.

Riding along this road really offered some nice scenery & road itself was in pretty good shape,...however they were pretty "powdery" in some places & especially on some of the corners.

That being said,.... Buff, SuperDave & myself approached this one corner, we could clearly see a KLR lying on it's side with Doug sort of "lying/sitting" next to his bike. This is a site that nobody ever wishes to see happen.

As we got to the scene, it became quite apparent that this was NOT Just a small fall. All I can say is that,....Doug, my dear friend.....IMHO you did very good keeping control as best as possible under the circumstances & saved both you & your bike from a hell of a lot more damage.!!!! Well Done Buddy :thumleft:

You can clearly see from the screenshots, what I mean,... by the pretty serious "Drop Off" that DougC managed to miss!!

Doug,.... you gave us all a Moerse Big Scare there    ..... Sure glad you weren't more serioulsy injured :thumleft:

Once we got both Doug & his bike up.... & checked for any serious injuries to both rider & machine,....we checked out what had happened & checked over the edge of that drop to realise that this incident could've turned out soooo much worse!!! Doug, my friend,... from what you explained to us & how you handled the situation,... I truly believe that under the circumstances,... you did your best to try recover there & even though both you & your bike got pretty beaten up,....just remember that it could've been a hell of a lot more devastating.

You should in no way beat yourself up about this incident or feel bad,... as this could've easily happen to anyone of us. In spite of your injuries,....once you took a short break,...like a "True Champion", you mounted your steed again & continued with the trip. I have plenty of Respect for you Buddy :thumleft: :notworthy: :notworthy: :notworthy:

An unfortunate incident ...

I first hit the soft sand quite some metres before the place where the bike came to rest. The back wheel immediately started to slide out towards the edge of the road (I suspect I didn't have sufficient weight on the outside foot peg). I shifted my weight back slightly and more onto the left peg, whilst looking up and accelerating. The bike initially straightened a bit but with the extra weight on the rear carrier, and the depth of the sand, I couldn't recover sufficiently. The bike snaked, I lost control and went down hard - I ended up in the middle of the road. I'm convinced, though, that by taking the corrective action mentioned above, I was able to move past the immediate danger of going over the side of the road into the 'gorge'.

The KLR took a bit of a battering and so did I. It could have been far worse, however, and I am grateful I came away relatively unharmed.

Thanks, Shaun, for your kind words of encouragement!

As we continued a little way down the road, we found the 3 front runners taking a little break. A few shot of some of the guys.

Sadly here,.... just after our turn-off off the N7 again,..... DougC decided to call it a day & head off back home towards back on the N7. He was not feeling 100% after his fall.

Doug, my dear friend, it truly was an honour to have you ride with us over these 2 days. Thanks for all your input into the ride & your friendship. I'm glad you got home safe & sound,.... even though your body was sore for a few days after. Heal soon Buddy, NEVER give up on that Gr8 "Fighting Spirit" to keep on going...... :thumleft: :thumleft: & I look forward to when I can take you out to complete that last section, once you're ready to ride  :ricky: :thumleft:

The run through to the next turn-off towards Paleisheuwel had some really nice long stretches, where you can "Stretch your Steed's Legs" a little >:D ;D ;D
Even though it proved to be a little "bumpy" in quite a few places..... much to the dislike of the Dave on his Husky :lol8: :lol8: :lol8: Check out the Licence plate :spitcoffee: Sorry Dave,.... I owe you a beer for that. ;) ;D
