640 auto-decompressor

Hi guys, got a stripped 07 640 that needed a conrod kit and piston kit. Bike was running well before it was stripped, just rattling more than it should. The auto-decompressor was not operating therefor bike would not start with happy button but started easily with the kick start.
Anyone out there have experience with the auto-deco..? I can't see anything visually wrong/worn on the components. I'd appresiat any input.
