Good Day Gents
I bought a nice looking 1986 Tenere 600 today, still need to go fetch it in Witbank, but I'm already full of ideas.
Would like to use it over weekends, my 2 boys are into offroading, and I'd like to join them, following and observing from a safe distance
Also would like to use this for occasional trips, into Lesotho, and around the Eastern Free State, so I'd like this to be as comfy as a thumper can be.
Been thinking about the following:
1) Fitting a screen. I see there are available on eBay, but are there other options?? I'm not the handy type at all, so would like to get something off the shelf.
In my earlier days, we sommer used delivery bike screens - are these still available?? Those worked a charm on my previous 80GS and KLR.
Even an aftermarket "nose" with screen would work, but I quickly checked Suppliers like Acerbis, they dont seem to make them for the 600 Tenere........any other places I could look at??
2) Seller (very honest Guy) tells me that the front rim "buckles", and apparently its not anyone that can rectify this. He talks about a "Monte Carlo" or something shop in Edenvale that can fix this.
Should I rather send it there and fix, or is this maybe not such a specialised job?? I do want to have it 100% correct
3) The 600's seat looks high, and, from previous spins I took on the 600 Tenere, it feels as if you sit "on top" of the bike. I'd like a more relaxed and "down" position (Im also a kortgat, 1,76m).
Thinking of maybe converting the existing seat to have a sort of "lower seat" up front, or even shortening the seat altogether, I would prefer it to be a single rider bike, almost like the old GS "single seats" you got.
Meaning, a short seat, and then a nice longer sort of "flat" carrier at the rear
Thoughts here??
4) I would also like to have some packing space, not really for extended trips (for now), but something like a nice soft pack at the rear to hold a drink/smoke/puffer jacket/cell phone - stuff like that. I'll look at aftermarket off shelf stuff, or probably have something made up, maybe something "modular" where I can add side bags or whatever.
5) Then - as in (3) above - I want a "laid back" position here. Do you get handlebar extansions for this, who supplies them?? This would actually be one of my first mods I'd like to do.
This has been added on 10 June, please have a look??
Anyway - couple issues though, I hope to get a response here on this Thread, dont want to start Threads all over the place:
1) Front wheel is bent, like in "oval"...........who and how ??
2) Side stand does not "go up" high enough, so this will definitely need to be fixed
3) Side covers and front mud guard are painted.......not a train smash, but I can see it. I've read somewhere that you can still get plastics for this..........??? Again not a major issue, the covers are very prolly gonna get scratched again anyway, I didnt buy this as a museum piece, I want to use it.
THANKS - I'll think about other blablabla to add in here over the Weekend > :laughing4:
VERY VERY excited to have this Tenere with me, its been AGES since I rode an adventure thumper.
I'm a newbie to this, actually, so please excuse stupid questions!!
This is the Bike in Question here........................
