Acerbis Tank, is it tough?

So a question for the XR guys that have the 24l acerbis tanks.

On my "new to me" XRR I have one. Makes the bike a little more topheavy but you get used to it quickly I found.

So my question, how tough are they? Will it handle a few spills on a Richtersveld trip or should I make myself a set of crash bars to protect it?
