Just thought I would impart this tidbit of info.
I have gone from the stock 16/46 sprockets to 17/43. (in stages!)
5000rpm now brings up a needle width over 120km/h.
The bike still pulls strongly, but wants to see 100km/h before you hook 5th or its slightly snatchy.
For my type of riding this is perfect.
You will need to slightly relieve the case saver. I used a flap wheel and angle grinder but you could use a half round file. Scribe a guide mark first or you will fark it up with a grinder.
Front sprocket from Craigs here in CT. It is common to some other Honda model. Not sure where I got the rear anymore.
Frankly I dont know how anyone copes with the stock gearing on tar. If I find the current gearing too tall offroad I will know its time to go get the XT500. ;>)
Cheers
Gavin
