Aliwal North - From Awesome to a Sh*thole - What status now?

|Hi, always used to stop at Aliwal North for the hot springs. Place was awesome, lovely hot springs.

About 10 years ago went there, locals were washing clothes in hot springs, place filthy etc, run down. Demanded my entrance fee back and left.  Want to try again, any one have any recent experience on the hot springs??? |Is it worth the stop?
