OK - herewith my pictures:
We stopped on the way to wait and buy some biltong near sonkwasdrif.
Soon a whole pack of dogs stopped. Somehow I missed the rain (leaving durbanville at eight and they got it (left at nine.)
The six of us travelling together were planning on a braai at the bottom of katbakkies. Near the top, we caught up with the same group of malkop-naaiers again.
Katbakkies view from where we stopped:
Getting ready to braai.
Jnrbull and his senior bike. One of my skaapkop eating riding buddies.
Tau forgot the promised wood, so we made do with branches from the thorn trees. Eventually we braaied on the flames.
Pote provided all the luxuries.

The Tankwa.
What an absolute highlight
It started like always:
At the turn-off to Middelpos (aiming for Gannnaga pass)
(yours truly making sure he is on one of his pictures)
After that the veld slowly started changing. The most unique smell was in the air. Sweet. Flowery. I started looking for a place to stop as the land was covered in yellow flowers.
I found THE spot.
WOW! WOW! and WOW again!!!!
The riding buddies pulling up for a smoke break
Stoetbul doing a detour. (Why am I not surprised)
But look at this:
As 'windgat' as can be...
For the rest of the trip there, I have no pictures. I was too busy riding and having fun. And it was getting a bit too late to stop.
I was real fun at the top of Gannaga pass with all the mud puddles, washed away tracks and mini water crossings.
My bike got muddy and it got washed all at a good speed.
We passed a smiling Dusty Rusty on the way (near Middelpos) and then we tackled the detour to the farm.
The last piece of tweespoor to the campsite was real challenging.
To quote myself.
"Toe ek nog by die grootpad was, toe was dit nog dag, maat toe ek die sand tref, toe was dit nag"
I was clever and rode next to the road, until I went into a ditch while swerving for an 'erdvarkgat'
My only fall on the way in. Three times more, I nearly wiped out but managed.
I pitched my tent in the dark, and went to join in the fun. No pictures of that too - I am sure the rest of the team took enough. Please post
I do remember lauging a lot. I remember fantastic food and the wood smoke from the fire.
I remember Bus's face when I ate a sheep's eye... :eek7:
My Camp:
These picture were taken of the bash site the next morning (Saturday)
We left for Calvinia to go enjoy a skaapkop at the festival. (Keep an eye
open for a mini trip report on that )
With all my mishaps on the way out (and I hear Stoetie had a puncture), we only arrived at the festival at 2:30.
But thereafter it was FUN.
I am sorry we missed the second bash evening, but to tackle the road back to the bash at night (again) with some refreshments inside, would have been a disasterous move.
So we slept over at the school.
These are my pictures of the return trip today:
We stopped here for a delicious curry and rice (R15,00) and free coffee. Bargain. :thumleft:
Steven ( the owner) having a chat.
See the burglar bars:
Then it was time to head home.
Thanks to all the riding buddies.
Dodo - nice to have met you - Jy kan darem fokken kuier jong. >
