Seriously, why do guys ride around with panniers. What do they put in there?
A barrel type bag strapped to the back holds everything I need for a week or two.
If I fall nothing breaks off. Nothing rattles around.
Besides looking like you are about to embark on an around the world trip, I don't get it.
Trying to keep the weight lower would be the only advantage but should you be carrying so much anyway?
Edit: If you are riding with a pillion you don't have much of an option.
