Hello Guys and girls.

We were at Atlantis on Sunday morning for a bit of a run, and also to give Rubicon and Remy a chance at riding in the sand.

My experience was that the entrance to the dunes is a bit daunting to the newbs, as it is a lot of sand all of a sudden, and the 4x4s churn it up a bit into a bad 2 spoor.  :ricky: (Shaun1, DougC and the "BMW affair" will confirm this.

Roost was in front, showing the 2 dunes newbs how you should rather not do it.

Short clip, as this main Moegoe forgot the helmet cam at home!

Lekker one, Pleco!

Hope to join you guys soon when I've got a bike again  :thumleft:

The sand was extremely soft. No speed under 30kph worked, which put Rubicon and me on the KLR completely out of our comfort zones.

It was good for me, as I needed to get my speed up. But it was not so nice for her, as she was bound to fall, and at those speeds it starts hurting.

Rubicon a bit eina today. A few bruises, and tired from fighting the bike and sand.   One thing she commented on was how well the Leatt brace works. She could feel it "catch" the helmet on impact. She has absolutely no whiplash or stiffness in her neck. The sand tends to grab and stop you abruptly, causing some problems.

The sand required an aggressive pull away in second, until the bike planes on top of the sand. This is something that needs to be practiced, and the girls tend to be a bit on the timid side with this. She rode well up to the first fall, and got through some seriously difficult pieces. That first fall unnerved her a bit unfortunately. She was still smiling though!

I will take her back there after the first winter rains. The sand needs to firm up a bit first. When you close the throttle, its like hitting the brakes. Hard! The bike would just dive straight in.

And lastly, Roost showing off the correct technique. He was absolutely flying. Jumping over dune crests and probably doing between 60 and 80 kph on the flatter sections. It makes my stomach turn just watching it  :eek7: :eek7:
