Johannesburg - A 32-year-old motorbike-riding accountant was fined R44 000 by the Krugersdorp Magistrate's Court on Wednesday for speeding, Gauteng traffic police said.

Spokesperson Busaphi Nxumalo said Brian Ely was arrested on the N14 between Muldersdrift and Zwartkops on Wednesday.

He was caught clocking 206km/h in a 120km/h zone on his Kawasaki super bike, she said.

Ely was on his way to join a group of friends at Pine Haven.

"He was taken to Muldersdrift police where he was charged with reckless and or negligent driving and an alternative count of exceeding the general speed limit," she said.

He appeared in the Krugersdorp Magistrate's Court shortly after he paid R1 500 bail at the Muldersdrift police station.

He was found guilty and sentenced to a fine of R44 000 or 90 days' imprisonment, of which half was suspended for three years.

He arranged with the court to pay R22 000 over a period of six months.
