Bmw 1200gs key

So I lost the key for my 2008 1200gs. I have a spare but the bike gives an EWS error code when I try use it. Apparently the management system isn't reading the key. So no i have heard that because I don't have the original key that was working, I might need to replace the whole management system at great expense? Anyone had this problem before?
