Unlike galvanized chain where you can see the corrosion, stainless chain is very difficult to see. 316L is only good up to about 27 degrees centigrade water temp. At that temperature and higher 318LN should be used to ensure the integrity of a stainless chain. Higher sea water temperature and 316L is a bad combination.
318LN is more expensive, unfortunately. Can't put a price on a good night's sleep at anchor though...
