Morning all,

I am thinking of doing a Cape to Cairo trip later this year and was wondering if there is anyone here who has done it who can help with some very basic initial advice.  Plan at his stage is CT – Caprivi – Lilongwe – Dar-es-Salaam – Ruwanda – Kampala – Addis – Gonder – Khartoum – Wadi Halfa – Cairo.  6-8 weeks, 2-3 bikes, no backup vehicles.

Initial questions are things like:
1. Leaving CT in July means we will be in Ethopia in the rainy season.  Is this a show-stopper?  If July is a problem, when is the best time to go?
2. Can the trip be done on a 1150 adventure?  Most folk seem to prefer 650’s – is it just the weight issue? Or are there other reasons?
3. Where is best to start?  Cape or Cairo?  Either way you need to ship bikes and have customs issues.
Any other comments?
TIA, Dale
