Hi,
I've been looking at a F650GS to purchase as my 2nd bike. Having found the bike in Gauteng, it is advertised as an '04 with 4000 km's.
Initial checks reveal that it is an '02.
Checks through BMW suggest the bike was last serviced in Aug '06 at 9357km's - seller suggest that BMW made a mistake and that his data is accurate
AA Check shows that no stolen or financial records are recorded.
Seller says logbook lost but all services done and, due to low mileage, bike has had annual services - BMW disagree with this.
Bike is in sellers mother's name - seller suggests that bike was bought originally by mother, unridden and then bought by seller for wife who has also not ridden the bike.
Have not seen it yet, but haVe asked for fax of reg doc and any documents supporting the puchase, ownership and maintenance.
A friend who is a biker and in the motor game (sells trucks etc), went and looked at the bike. It's mint, unmarked and very clean. Tyres are still good yet, it seems to have the black raised plastic screen as opposed to the transparent screen normally seen on these bikes. I question why if the bike was never really ridden, why changes like this are made.
So, here's the point of this posting. I've renegotiated the price to reflect the model and we're happy with that. In the mine-field of private sales, based on what I've written above, am I right to hang around and continue with the transaction or should I walk away and find another deal - of which there are many!
This is the first bike I am buying in this country (private) since my arrival last April and I would certainly like to ensure that I (and my moolah) are protected as much as possible.
Your comments, suggestions and advice is much appreciated.
Regards
Lawrence
