Cooked Headlamp Harness (S10)

I was returning from Rosslyn yesterday when I noticed in the reflection of the car ahead of me that my headlamp was dead.  I stopped to check -- cooked harness both sides.

If I install HID with a more robust wiring and connectors does that solve that problem of the harness that is generally considered an achilles heel of the S10; do I need to buy replace the harness first.

Please advise.
