Could my stator be toast

In trying to diagnose some charging issues, I eventually opened the stator cover and found what I think is some charring

Any ideas if I can test the stator any further? Or can anyone tell from the pics whether it's toast.
On that note, anyone have a reliable contact in the Cape Town area for rewinding the stator?
I've tried getting hold of Krogs but he's moving so won't be up and running for a while.
