so i have been playing with this crazy trip idea for someday maybe...
we all envy the guys that do the trans africa type trips but we dont have
1. the money to do it
2. the time to do it
so here is my crazy idea ;D
leave your nice bike at home!
yes you heard my - you leave your dakar, ktm, adventure whatever at home
get something like a yamaha xt 500 you can get the for cheap (they might be in crap condition but still cheap) fix it up but dont go overboard
what you want is a cheap reliable bike (and no that is not an oxymoron - it can be done)
not just xt500 - old xl500 or even xt250 or xl250 or whatever you can find for cheap and fix up for cheap
then you put in for your month or two's leave that you have save up
and you aim NORTH
just travel as far as you want in the general direction of UP - maybe aim for london or wherever
then if
1. you reach london no money spent in shipping your bike back you either sell it there, donate it or just leave it at the airport
2. if the bike breaks down (serious breakdown) you just leave it there if it cannot be fixed and jump on the first flight back
now sure this can be done solo but if a couple of guys do it together all on the same bikes enough spares can be carried with to ensure that all will make the trip
what you think?
crazy huh?
