Cape Town bylaws 2021 says the following:)

47. Duty to indicate when changing lanes

(1)The driver of a vehicle on a public road divided into traffic lanes by appropriate road traffic signs may not turn from one lane into or across another lane unless the driver can do so without obstructing or endangering other traffic.(2)A driver may not turn from one lane into or across another lane without giving a conspicuous signal visible to any person approaching from the front, from the rear or from the side, and of a duration sufficient to warn that person of the driver’s intention to turn.

It is clear from the above that moving into the fast lane in front of a faster moving car would be construed as obstructing or endangering.

The k53 books are not the actual legislation. It is always best practice to read the appropriate legislation first and then try to understand it .:)

If he didn't he would have driven over the biker from what I understand. Its also common practice for trucks to indicate and change lanes with no regard who is approaching. He with the bigger vehicle always wins.

What is the fast lane on a 4 lane highway?

Keep left, pass right when safe to do so is the rule. People will do well to remember this in general...

On a two lane freeway it stands to reason that the fast lane is the one on the right. I suspect that on a 4 lane highway any lane to the right of the far left will be faster. Take your pick.

It is a pity here in the western cape that the pass right - keep left signs have been removed as it would serve as a reminder to road users to keep left.

if there are 3/4 lanes each lane should have a min speed. that's how it works in other countries.

That is the prevailing logic yes.

The reason why I ask is that people see most right lane as the fast lane or "do whatever i want lane" , idiots obstructing the flow by travelling at a slow speed in the middle lane(because it's not the "fast lane"), passing on the left etc etc.

Keep left, pass right when safe to do so should be everyone's mantra.

I am pretty sure there are still one of these signs on the N1 outbound between Giel Basson and Plattekloof turn off.

Ah yes, according to google streetview it is still there.

So min meegevoel as wat ek met kar bestuurders het wat stupid goed doen.... Daai biker wat amper stil staan in die stadige baan moet maar sy aandeel in die storie aanvaar
Distracted the truck driver to a certain extent.... Have I mentioned I hate mass rides like this? Everyone goes into sheep mode.

Truck driver changed lanes to fast to avoid hitting the idiot that was barely moving and blocking the lane .Lady in the car had no where to go and panicked because as she swerved there was a almost stationary bike in front of her . I think that she reacted very well up untill she saw the barely moving bike in front of her .Badly organised event . Thank God nobody got killed . Life is short guy's.

No one even had high vests. Yet they want to stop or divert cars and trucks .

The driver of that Fokommer was on her phone, not giving attention to the road Infront of her, she was definitely not looking straight ahead

It depends on the distance from indicating vehicle. If you are far away, be polite, slow down and let him in. If you are close, the indicating vehicle has to wait until you pass
how far is far ?

This should be logical for most. Look at the video. That Fortuner was not even within the screen of the video when the truck started indicating, plenty of time to see what was happening and slow down.

I did watch the video and that makes it even more difficult to understand how anyone would think that you can indicate and change lanes because you have right of way over vehicles already in the fast lane.
how far is far ? , if the car was travelling at 120 , and was aware of their surroundings , there was enough time to slow down and allow the truck in ,

i am not saying you have 'right of way' ..... i am saying you are not allowed to overtake a vehicle that has indicated the intention to make a turn or manuvre
at least that is what i was told by a test instructor . it being aware of traffic around you
the indicating vehicle must still take precautions before executing the maneuver
