How was the bike that was hit by the Fortuner at vault?

I think we have to be careful about the language we use.. 'fault' is not the correct word as technically it was an accident, but if you read the whole thread I think its agreed that if you are entering a highway where everyone is doing 120km/h and you are in a procession doing 60km/h forcing the traffic in the slow lane to move over to the fast lane, its going to cause potential problems as we see here if other road users don't anticipate it.

There is nothing stopping anyone from riding their bikes at 70 or 80km/h on a highway but it must be unsettling knowing that people are coming up behind you at double the speed.

I heard last night of another 2 bikers killed, husband and wife, each on their own bikes, that drove into the back of a vehicle, not sure about all the detail but they were returning from a ride, riding in formation with other bikes. happened outside Vereeniging/VDB somewhere.
yeah , i saw them earlier ( not the accident)

and there was a crusader killed , his daughter critical , in the boksburg area

I checked the video and it seems that the Fortuner was over the solid white line at the time it appears in the video. In my opinion she was distracted

Truck swerves into fast lane to avoid bikes filtering into the highway like they are riding bicycles, car decides that there is enough space to overtake the truck on the right moving over past the solid line and floors it.. truck changes lane quicker than car anticipated and gap closes.. car has no choice but to slam on brakes but the gap has closed too much

Makes sense as well.

You have to read my comment in conjunction with the post I quoted, nothing to do with the language used or the whole debacle of this accident.

Good question. They were still on the onramp, doing nothing wrong.
The bikes that entered the the lane forcing the truck to move into faster moving traffic. The bikes should have entered behind the truck and then went up to speed to overtake. But to enter into the lane in front of faster moving vehicles is dumb and a bike against a truck , who do you think will win , the leader of the bike pack was at fault as well as the driver of the fortuner . Unfortunately the poor couple that got taken out were the casualties of some bad mistakes of the group leaders.

wasn't there a biker signalling the left lane traffic to move right? and a biker driving slowly in the left lane?

This is where convoys are not a good idea especially joining a highway.

Sometimes we bikers forget that staying alive and well is way more important than keeping the formation intact. Bikes are quick and nippy, so no major issue if the formation is split up a tad when required to be for safety, such as an onramp. It can join up quick and easy a few minutes later.

Urgh I read all of this in the hope that a biker that was in that procession was on here, debating, but no just the usual suspects :ROFLMAO: :ninja:

I think it is safe to say that it is unlikely because;
1. We prefer dirt...
2. We are not sheep.
3. Many of us prefer solo or small group riding.

I was not part of the procession/mass ride, but know a few people that were, including the gent that was hit by the Fortuner.
We actually met up at the Engen Winelands earlier.
The guy swearing on the vid is the father of the boy who was the pillion.
This was for/part of the His Blood Warriors Annual Bible Run, departing from Engen Falsebay on the N2 on Sunday morning.

I'm not engaging in this thread, it's rather disappointing.
