I was speaking about the generating units, there are 2. One was taken offline for repair / maintenance.
Yes. One is off for maintenance and refueling. The other is running. When Welsh and I talk of Koeberg 2, we mean another power station.

Where would a good place be to build another nuclear plant ? Coega, Richardsbay or maybe West Coast somewhere ?

I notice that Ramaphosa is already giving credit for the reduced loadshedding to his sparky minister .
Correct me if I am wrong but I am sure the repairs to those stations would have been months in happening and not just a few days since sparky was appointed .

Next to Koeberg, the land the Licence, the infrastructure is all in place, plus it will piss off the Capetonians. A win win. (y)
We not pissed off , we got used to it years ago and we don't have the coal smog 👍

Why so long , or is that going on Medupi / Kusile timeline .

Typical build time for a Nuke, Huge amount of Civil construction and Mechanical works, they also have a habit of over running the time schedule by a few years. Just appointing a Contractor will probably take a couple of years and court cases. One would think they would have the documentation to go out on an RFQ sitting in a draw, all ready to go, Not a FOK, they will probably start preparing it when given the Green light. Medupi was issued with 25 year plus obsolete old ESKOM specifications. (y)

100% correct, the only thing he could have interfered in is to placate the Mafia doing the sabotage.

Amusingly, in the ESKOM article one of the three stations they praise is "Medupi" isn't it the big bad boy that ESKOM have been blaming for the load shedding for the last few years?

For interest, Finlands Olkiluotto 3 built by the French is currently coming on-line 10 years late. (y)

I would not be involved in a Nuke here, it would be frustratingly hilarious, I had experience of it with the PBMR, the little tin pot beurocrats demanding localisation of manufacture, when they have ZERO knowledge of the quality and documentation challenges to do so.

There was one manufacturer in Africa that had exported components to a European nuclear power plant (conventional island not nuclear island) it no longer exists (FYI I ran it).

Site were identified decades ago. I can't remember if the land was actually decided on and bought, but in the vicinity of Jeffrey's Bay somewhere was one possibility.

As they use sea water for cooling I think it will have to be in an area with cooler water, so probably on the Cape Coast somewhere.

And in an earthquake stable place as well , Koeberg is apparently very stable in that respect .

If you Google "infrastructure overruns" you would be surprised at some massive budget and time overruns on projects in the 1st world. And I mean massive.
