After replacing my mirrors for the umpteenth time at around R600 a shot I started to look for something else. It was important that the mirrors are the same quality and that they give you a similar angle of view as some of the aftermarket mirrors can turn the background nearly invisible plus a flat glass that allow large area of blind-spot when checking the mirror.

I do not mind spending R600 on a good mirror but it would be nice to spend it only once and not again and again after putting my bike down every time.
I was looking for something that could easily fold away when riding rougher trails and that would be made tougher so it wont break when you just look at it. Being able to replace only the glass lens would be even better as this seems to be the part that breaks in more than 90% of the incidents.

I have found just such a mirror; the Doubletake mirror is the invention of a fellow adventure rider from the US and an avid Adventure rider forum member.

The Doubletake mirrors make use of the RAM mount system which allow almost infinite adjustablility end flexibility. RAM mounts can be used to fit the mirrors to any and all models making use of the original mirror mounts or by fitting an additional RAM U mount.

The mirrors are made from an almost indestructible plastic materiel with the mirror lens fixed by using silicone sealer, making it very easy to remove the broken lens and replacing it for a fraction of the cost of replacing the entire mirror.
