My son has a DRZ 125. great little bike.
A number of months ago we had someone new to riding try out the DRZ. I stepped away for a minute and once I came back my son, very worried, told me that his bikes is smoking. The "learner" had kept it in 1st gear on quite high revs for a couple of passes/minutes. Not screaming high revs but more than my son was comfortable with.
Once we got home I did an oil change. Oil smelled a little burnt.
The bikes till runs great, takes a couple of kicks to start when cold but this has always been the case. Once warmed up it start first kick. Does not seem to have a lack of power.
Yesterday we were riding a quite slow, bumpy trail and my son was going along in 2nd gear. The bikes smokes in 2nd gear when riding like this. We riding more spirited or just normally but shifting through the gears and not staying in 2nd the bike does not smoke at all. Bike also does not smoke when idling or starting up.
I would appreciate some insight on exactly what damage I am looking at.
