ELANDS RIVER VALLY ROAD TO GROOTRIVIER DAY TRIP

1st March 2008

Uitenhage Group met PE group at rocklands filling station  in misty morning conditions.
The ride from Rocklands  to the STEYTLERVILLE road turn off was approx. 65Km,from the turn off to Groot Rivier crossing approx. 30km. (I'm Guessing)

Goods found to be packed in TOPBOX: Tyre Levers,Amstel,Punture repair kit,Windhoek Lagers,Electric PUMP,Black Labels,Snacks and some beers.

There were a couple of beer breaks and we also stopped for a beer or two.

Stopped above Grootriver for BEER break and to admire view.

Warren 650 (KLR) helped Wild Warren(KLR) pump his wheel,that had a slow leak,we also decided to have a beer.

We met two riders above Grootrivier one with rear flat wheel,and Warren and Evan decided to assist below at river.

The rest of us would of helped,but we were to scared of spilling our beer.

I did not know you get nails that big.

I saw the other kind of wild dog.

Graham on BMW 1200,decided to move on through to STEYTLERVILLE and then ended up in staying  in Knysna on Saturdaynight.

Notice 3rd photo cant decide which is more beautiful the KLR 650 bike or scenery.

Left GrootRivier and back on top to Patensie for a braai.

Total distance approx. 220Km.

The scenery on this road is awesome. The Elands road is a fast easy road to ride. It's quick and a lekker outride for a sunday morning. Once you turn off towards the Groot rivier the going gets a bit tougher but still do-able. If you don't turn off to the Groot rivier then you head on straight to Patensie where there are nice places to eat. Patensie is also the gateway to Baviaans.

Recognise Evan from a ride we did about a year back along the same route. Nice guy, nice missus. He can ride that Dakar. She just hangs on and takes it in her stride.
