Following from a request by Elmo on this thread : https://wilddog.net.za/forum/index.php?topic=147214.0 , he, Goliath and I met with our 1200's at the Sasol garage on the Pelindaba road this morning. Goliath led us on some wonderful dirt roads to Breedt's neck, where we had our first rest. This was my first time on these roads and I enjoyed every second thereof.

After a short break at Breedt's, we rode down the other side towards Mooinooi and thereafter on some dirt roads to Marikana. We then rode on a very nice tweespoor next to train tracks on the way to the canal roads. Elmo's Superten started giving problems with its electrics and just cut out from time to time. He managed to do some roadside repairs and we continued on the eastern canal roads. However, part of the road was totally washed away and we had to take a bit of a detour. On the way back Elmo's bike cut out again and he decided to cut his ride short and go for home.

Goliath and I then also decided to take the tar road back to Brits and then to Harties, where we stopped at the Upperdeck for a quick drink. All in all we rode about 80km's of dirt roads, but we still have a date with the canal roads as we haven't finished it. Always an excuse for a next ride ... Thanx to Elmo and Goliath for a very enjoyable ride, I hope we can do this again very soon.

Thanks Cruizeman, and Goliath, lekker ride. Got home and probed and pulled and dug, and after trying to get to technical and almost laughing at some of the ridiculous reasoning of what i was telling myself what could be happening, my wrist pushed up against the battery positive lead and the ignition went off!...terminal bolt loose!! Pity a bike can't talk went you are out in the field!! anyway all well now, and we will just need to do this route again!?  :3some:

My dakar like to do that as well.
Everytime I take the battery out for refilling and charging (remember the dakar like to ride with a dry battery as it cooks itself dry on top of the motor) I have to tighen the battery terminals properly.

It once let me down on a trip to Namibia because of this.
I now know to check the terminals first when I get some electrical mulfunction.

You just feel so p**pol when you realise the problem.

Was a lekker ride especially as I had not ridden for so long after my badly sprained wrist  :ricky: There has to be a part 2 (perhaps Marks night ride) to finish the east canals. Oh and my very loose and wobbly screen was down to the mount for the wind shield that had cracked and allowed the screws to loosen. That mount must cost the same as a new windshield altogether  :deal: :eek7:

I tried uploading the route but its just to big (not sure why I can't upload .rar files)

Wish I had joined what looked like a fun ride

thks for RR
