BMW GS Eco THANKS to Dani for sharing . . .
6 - 9 October 2011
Clocolan, Free State
What is in a name, you ask?
GS – a celebration of the unique Gelände/Straße (German: off-road/road) motorcycles and their owners.
Please note - only GS motorcycles will be allowed.
Eco – to allow you to and continue to experience our eco system at its best in the unique Maluti environment.
BMW Motorrad will donate one tree for every motorcycle to Food and Trees for Africa's program “Trees for Homes”.
What makes this different from the previous GS Eco events?
Start locations
These are not limited to five start venues anymore (previously Johannesburg, Cape Town, Durban, Port Elizabeth, George), but each dealer will offer a start location. This also implies that there are no pre-defined route and no backup unless specifically arranged with the dealers.
A different destination
Nestled in the heart of the Eastern Free State Clocolan – you will be welcomed with open arms by the local farmer community, and you will be able to experience “Farm Culture” and the Maluti region through the food and activities that is being arranged for you.
The main venue
We have secured the local fairgrounds as the main venue for the event, which will be transformed into a 'Tent town' of sorts. It offers existing infrastructure; including ablution blocks, running water and electricity.
One venue vs. multiple locations
The event will be held in one location, instead of the 4 previously. (3 compulsory stops at Clarens, Beaufort West and Graaff Reinet; and the final overnight at Gariep.)
Aspects of the GS Challenge that has been brought back
Choices of green, orange and red routes to choose from them, the orange and red routes will give you the opportunity to ride in unique areas specially arranged for this event. Please note that only a limited number of advanced riders will be allowed on the red route.
A Skills Challenge – enabling the best riders to show off their skills – and win some great prizes!
Camping in the 'tented town' will be the preferred accommodation option – this is where all the excitement will be and you won't want to miss out on any of it!
Accommodation
Camping is the main accommodation planned.
Rent a dome tent that will be erected for you, for hassle-free camping at very good rates.
You can also choose to bring your own tent.
Self-catering and B&B options are also available.
A range of choices which is from 1 kilometer up to 30 kilometers away,
Access to these is either via tar or dirt.
Mini busses will be arranged to enable riders staying at these not to have to ride to and from dinner.
On-road routes (100% tarred)
Will be available – this will be mainly routes into Lesotho to some of the unique destinations the Mountain Kingdom has to offer.
No more 1000
You will notice the “1000” of “GS Eco 1000” has disappeared. In the past you were asked to travel 1000 kilometers to the event. This is no longer a requirement as we want you to decide on the route you want to take, preferably in conjunction with a dealer of your choice.
Multiple routes to destination – it is highly recommended that you use the dealers.
Start locations are not limited to five start venues anymore (previously Johannesburg, Cape Town, Durban, Port Elizabeth, George), but each dealer will offer a start location.
This also implies that there are no pre-defined route and no backup unless specifically arranged with the dealers.
Food – we asked the local vendors to provide local /”plaas” cuisine – and they responded and said they will provide ensure that we enjoy “farm culture” to the fullest. Expect to have a bazaar and be treated with “koeksisters” and “melktert”, spitbraai, etc.
Local vendors will be used to minimise cost and bring you a unique “Clocolan” experience.
A donation from you is requested, and the organisers shall also contribute to local charities in order to make a difference in the local community.
And finally; a significantly reduced cost – R 800 for all participants.
The same fee applies for riders, pillions and non-riders.
For this cost you will receive a custom designed unique event MX shirt, 3 dinners and all the other benefits of attending the event. The cost reduction mainly due to simplifying the concept, as explained above, to keep overheads as low as possible.
Please note: To ensure a unique experience and reduce the impact on environment – we have to apply a limit on entrants to 600.
For this reason – please pay your registration fee when registering as we need to apply an automatic cancellation rule after 14 days to ensure that we don’t have provisional bookings that are not committed to – and therefore prevent other participants to book.
Let us know if you have any questions. We are looking forward welcoming you to this event!
