You might be 100% correct, but how lucrative can begging really be?
Well a gardener, or house cleaner can earn about R250 a day. In some areas beggers here can manage that and even more easily.

I have a friend who regularly offer traffic light beggars a day job for R300. Not once did anyone took up his offer. They straight out laugh in his face. They recon they make more than dubbel that hanging around on the roads

Up North in the Arabic countries I have encountered little begging and normally only by elderly woman.
Even in Iraq and Afghanistan. However, enter the South Sudan and as you move down South you get the African salute which is an outstretched arm and a ‘give me money’ by almost everyone except woman.
The pale skin people has always seen by them as wealth and good hearts I suppose.
Only in Kenya did people not bug us for money.
They do not want food, they want money.
Most tell you give me dollar.
They do not want local currency.

Regardless, that is the way I found Africa and the way I accept it and I am still in love with Africa.
I will rather live in a Country like Uganda than in most European sterile countries but that is how I am wired
Each to his own

Back to Noraly, she got legend status in my eyes now and I don’t easily see someone as legend

could not have said it better Tom. Here in Addis I walk with sunglasses on and Cap pulled down, to avoid the African salute.

600km on that road? I would do it with a Landcruiser with a trailer with plenty extra diesel, water and food. Alone on a bike? Norrafok!
