I've got about 20 years of riding under the belt, and am a newly-returned rider - came back into the fold about 3 years back.

So very recently I discovered something which I never knew and seems so obvious and natural that I can only assume that everyone else knows it, and it was just me that is very late to the party.

It's this: When you accelerate hard, you lean slightly forward and grip the seat with your thighs so that you're not hanging on the bars. And conversely, when you brake hard, you grip the bike tightly with your thighs so that you're not locking up your arms and pushing on the bars. It gives me vast amounts more sensitivity and control because I'm not loading the bars with my body weight on hard acceleration and braking.

Your comments please but be gentle!
