When riding through Namibia and the Northern Provinces the temperatures are often in the high thirties and sometimes approaching 50°C.

I have heard that summer jackets are great for short trips around the city or along a sunny coastline but deadly in the desert, particularly if you plan to spend several days in the open.
The theory is that you dehydrate faster in a summer jacket because the sweat that is meant to cool you is constantly evaporating. This might explain why Arab traders in the Sahara wear caftans and cloaks instead of fishnet vests and hotpants.

Obviously summer jackets increase comfort but does it speed up dehydration or not? What do you think?
Or will a all-season Rally2 suit perform better as long as you religiously drink your 4litres of water a day?
