My bike lift jack that uses a bottle jack needed a seal replaced and subsequent topping up of the oil which I did today. I didn't have specific hydraulic oil which is recommended. After some reading on the 'net it appeared that something like Agritrac Super Universal 15w-40 could be used. After topping up with this oil, the jack now doesn't lower completely when the release valve is operated. I restripped the jack and cleaned it out with degreaser, purged it of air and still not lowering. I suspect the oil I used is too thick.
A quick search on Takealot shows plenty of general hydraulic oil but nothing specific for bottle jacks. Any ideas where I can get this specific oil? And if my suspicion of the cause of the problem is accurate?
