I got my F650GS twin at the end of June of this year.
It went in for the run-in service at 1000kms, and is currently on 5000km.
On my way to work today I felt a slight wobble as I turned into the front gate of our office premises. It felt as if there were a few pebbles on the road. I looked down but saw that the road was clean (Everything washed away with the rain we have had the past few days).
Upon closer inspection I found the following:
The front axle shaft was almost turned out all the way, I could turn it out with my hand. The isa screw on the left hand side that is used to clamp the axle shaft was also loose enough so that I could turn it out without using any tools!
This was the first time I have ridden the bike since the WD bash the past weekend, and I shiver at the thought that the front wheel could have come off while on my way back home!!!!
The first pick shows the axle shaft as part number 2, and the second pic is of the isa screw, also part number two.
(Wonder if that was intentional...)
I have seen a report of an american F800GS rider who had one front caliper come off, breaking the wheel from the fork, luckily at slow speed.
The moral of the story is, if you have a new/newish F800GS or F650GS, go and check all your screws/bolts/nuts before you go for your next ride!
The best of all is that the OEM toolkit does not include a torx tool big enough to fasten/remove the said two bolts. :xxbah:
These two bolts will definitely be supplied with some blue loctite before the next ride.
Please, this is no attempt at bashing the brand/product. I am truly in love with this bike, and have had only good times and great memories riding it so far. :ricky:
This is just a wake-up call to not trust the local dealers to check everything during a service, even if it is a run-in service. And to routinely check for any loose bolts/screws.
