So you want to cross at Buitepos then Ghanzi,Maun,Nata and Kasane. You would miss a lot Nam has to offer but do do NAM properly you have to do it a couple of times anyway.
If you take the western route through the desert and end up in Swakopmund take the C28 dirt through the Khomas Hochland to Windhoek. You can thank me Hi Chrisl - thanks a lot Bud - really appreciate the input

We just love planning and dreaming of riding Nam. I should probably just say I hate riding on tar and Namibia has many tar routes that will still take you past awesome sights and places.

It really is an easy country to travel on bike. I love Botswana and Zimbabwe, only been to Zambia once, however the lodges and camps and roads or offroad routes are mostly for vehicles and not bikes.

If you by any chance get to Swakopmund and have time go north Hentiesbaai then east to Spitskoppe. From Spitskoppe to Usakos and then tar small bit to Karibib and then dirt on the C32(i think) till you T the C28 and left to Windhoek through the Khomas Hochland.

IF you get to Solitaire and then want to get to Windhoek you have two choices either Spreedsthoogte pass or further north on the C26 via Gamsbergpass. Don't ask me which one is the nicest you will have to do both AND to do both you will have to backtrack 13 kms south from Solitaire and go left up Remhoogtepass then left at the massive town of Nauchas and down Spreedtshoogtepass back to Rottenapplepietown to fill up back on main road to the right turnoff on the C26 for Gamsbergpass.

Like so:

I'm a bit out of date, but crossing into Zim from Zambia at the Kariba dam is/was quiet and relaxed. We stayed at the Carribea Bay hotel overlooking the lake which was fun. If you are going to Great Zimbabwe then Norma Jean's at Lake Mutirikwi has great camping and rooms in an old lodge.

I bought the T4A Namibia self-drive Guide on a whim after reading some of the Namibia ride reports on the forum. Wanted to start planning a route and convince my brothers that it's time we do a Nam trip together. It has a lot of information in it, stuff to see, some tips on the areas, useful contact numbers, places to stay. I think the advice by the people above are likely more useful than getting it from a book, but I'm enjoying going through the guide and happy with the money spent. Will likely buy the Botswana one later this month.
The t4a map is good but I prefer the mapstudio map of Namibia.. from exclusive books

I have both the above and another one. 🙈😄
