Is it worth the risk?

Hi there!
I'm a newbie looking into buying a bike. I have done lots of quad-biking on the farm and know how much fun it is. I am looking into going the adventure biking route as I love travelling. I think Namibia is the best place in the world!
I am however faced with a dilemma, is this adventure biking worh the risk? Is it really that daangerous? Or is this topic just taboo?
Don't get me wrong, I'm more for it than against, I just want to take the important things into concideration.
Any comments?
