Jonathan Kaplan, the world's most experienced Test referee, had to withdraw from Saturday's Currie Cup match between the Blue Bulls and the Free Sate Cheetahs after being involved in a scooter accident.

Kaplan received 30 stitches to his leg after he drove into a taxi's door - which opened up unexpectedly in front of him - in Cape Town on Friday.

Kaplan said that his injuries are not serious.

South African refereeing boss, Andre Watson, said he does not expect the injuries to stop Kaplan from representing South Africa at the Rugby World Cup later this year.
