Groenie hit 40 eventually (almost as old as me) and as I'm off to Lesotho, I had to service him a bit.

I like to make a list of what needs to be done, what has to be done and what would be nice to do if I have time.

So, just for interest sake, here's my list:

Needs to be done:

Oil change/new oil filter
Clean air filter
New spark plug
Rear brakes
Front brakes
Adjust chain
Check battery
Find the location of the mystery nut...
Top up Scott Oiler
No need to check valves -  I did them 6000km ago and they're still fine

Has to done:

Flickers - get them working again (found they have to be replaced)
Tooltube - rethink it
Clutch cable - adjust a bt as I can't pull clutch in completely with one finger, the others get in the way
Powerpoint - redo the wiring
Highway pegs - bend them back in shape
Check all fuses and clean contacts

Nice to have:
Get a solution for that kark fuel tap.
Protect the rear brake master cylinder
Radiator protection

All the Needs-to-be's are done. The mystery bolt is a strange one though. While cleaning (spraying with Prepsol) I found a nut under the starter motor. I knew it came off the bike and luckily found it. It was the nut under the carb intake.....how the hell did that one come loose, and why only now? Ahh well, will most probably never know. At least it's good and locktited now. Another interesting one is the chain -  after 6000 km, it needed no adjustment at all. Thank you Scott Oiler, the best R1000 I spent on farkels yet.

The Has-to-be's are still n progress. Flickers-  I bought cheapies from Mosskays a while ago and they are ...... well, cheap. The have to replaced. Wasted R180 on them. The tooltube is still bugging me. I need to change it so both ends can be opened......still thinking about that one. The clutch will be adjusted as soon as the bke is together again as I have to ride it to see if it's right.

And now, my fav's - the Nice-to-have's. I only did something about radiator protection, the rest may or may not be attempted this week.

First I tried with some 4130 tubing I have from the aircraft project, but the wall thickness is very thin. So I found a piece of thick walled tubing to use. I didn't take any pics during construction. I cut slots in the tube, about 1 cm apart, bent it and welded the slots again. It came out reasonably well. Here's a pic just after the first coat of Hammerite (Kark quality due to cellphone)
