After owning the KLR600 mule for a few months and starting the thing successfully after about 20 minutes of soul destroying kicking each time I now have a loose kickstart lever. The piece of metal keeping the lever from coming off the shaft has broken off.
So I tried unsuccessfully to drill a hole through the top and bolt it together - bolt head sheared off after 4 kicks. Tried to weld it - made a godawful mess of metal but no cigar.
Boils down that I admit defeat and will need to purchase another kickstart lever - complete with the part that goes onto the shaft splines. I'm hoping someone knows a bike graveyard down in the Western Cape similar to Bike Hospital in Jhb where I might try to source a second hand one. Anyone? I don't know what the thing will set me back at KMSA but I'm sure it won't be pretty.
