Not mine. Found it on ADV rider and thought it was interesting:

Sharing some KLR knowledge through my own experience:

My 05 KLR 650 recently started popping and backfiring during deceleration. The backfiring started after it sat for about month while I was waiting for some parts needed for a botched clutch repair. While putting the bike back together I broke a small plastic tube fitting on the carb and replacing the fitting required removal of the left side of the carb. It's a easy fix.

Anyhow, back to the backfiring. I checked all of the common causes for this issue and my bike checked out fine. Finally I found, in the the depths of the internet, another potential cause that can occur IF the carb has been taken apart. Turns out there is an extremely small "O" ring behind the left-side cover of the carb, it's easy to lose, and easy to miss. It has something to do with a "deceleration valve" and if that "O" ring is missing the bike will pop and backfire while decelerating with the throttle closed. Well, guess what "O" ring my carb was missing? $4 later the problem was fixed.

I hope this helps someone, it was obscure info and a simple fix.

It's part number "92055c" on the diagram attached below:
