Hi Dawgs
On Saturday morning I thought I'd quickly fit my new SW Motech crashbars on the KLR. After starting with the fitting procedure I soon realised that everything doesn't quite line up as closely as I would have liked, but I could still make them fit.
The top of the crashbars mount on the same point where the sub-frame is mounted on the main frame. It uses a spacer and a lenghtened bolt to connect the crashbars, sub-frame and frame at the same point. The thread which the bolt turns into is fixed into the frame, so there's no nut on the other side.
After few beers and some swearing I finally had all nuts and bolts in place. But when I started tightening them, I broke that specific bolt clean off.
It broke off just where the bolt goes into the threaded section of the frame, so there's nothing sticking out that can be used remove the remaining part of it.
BTW, I actually thought these mounting bolts are much stronger than the originals and would solve the problem of the KLR's weak standard sub-frame bolts. I was wrong...
Any ideas of how I can get that piece of bolt out of threre? Or any alternative solutions?
Here's two pics, one showing where the bars are supposed to mount on the bike, and the other showing the broken bolt compared an unbroken one.
I'm a bit desperate now because the bike cannot be ridden at all with a loose sub-frame.
All advice will be highly appreciated.
Thanks
