Today has turned out to be a miserable day in the Mother City. Took a chance to go to work on
the KLR since the sun was shining early morning but now its pissing down with rain. Suppose
the Fynbos needs the water since it's been a really dry winter so far.
Despite the gloomy weather I am a really happy bunny! After waiting patiently and fearing my
parcel was lost by our dear Post Office I finally took delivery of my new oil filler cap all the way
from Seattle in the USA! The story started a few months ago...
R-O-V-Rat took us out on a little ride in the mountains, spectacular scenery but there was this one
section which turned out to be a little rough. Pictures with compliments of R-O-V-Rat.
Losing control while trying to negotiate the uphill I took a tumble between some rocks and sheared out the
oil filler cap. It was so funny, as I fell beside the bike I just saw a thick jet of oil gushing from the hole
where the cap was supposed to be. Switched the engine off immediately but still managed to lose about
1/2 liter of oil. One of the rocks I fell on scraped along the clutch casing and sheared the cap right out of
its thread. Luckily the cap is made of plastic and the damage was limited to the cap itself.
Co-incidentally a few weeks earlier a friend and fellow Adventure Rider that lives in Seattle offered to buy
me a gift in return for the Lesotho video I sent him. He linked me to a website of a online store they have
there. They sell these supposed "tamper proof" oil filler caps. Done! This is what I want, thank you very much!
The cap comes with a key to open it with. Sold separately of course. This way it will be difficult for a bypasser
to tamper with it.
Now I can't wait to see if the rocks can shear this baby out! :ricky:
