Loved being out in the Cederberg with the camera. It was an excuse to take in a few extra hikes

Hi Judy - welcome back - even for a while.

Lovely game and bikey pics.

I had some fun tuesday - I went on a "light painting" workshop on the beach where we took pictures of spinning "fire" and LED lights.

Never done this before - must play a bit more.

Very pretty picture, at what ss do you more or less dind the sweet spot doing these racing?
Tom, I was shooting 1/60 for those pics... Trick is to find the subject, follow the subject, keep the focus point exactly on the point of focus, squeeze the shutter, maintain follow through with the focus point till well past the shutter closing... That's it. As you practice more, you can get down to 1/6... But I only got that right once...

I would appreciate some advice. I was gifted a used Canon EOS600D with a Canon 18-55mm lens with shutter speed seemingly 3.5-5.6. I know it's not the best money can buy, but I'm starting to get fond of the camera. The problem is that the lens has almost no zoom capability. This morning I snapped a whale in the distance but you have to really zoom into the final picture to make out what the subject is and by that time it's just a blur. The same goes for birds. What would a good all-round lens be for wildlife? I don't want the highest zoom available, but a guinea fowl at 60m must at least fill a quarter of my frame. Also, I don't necessarily want to buy brand new.

Hi JT, depending on budget a 55-250mm or 75-300mm lens would help you quite a bit. You sometimes get secondhand ones in good condition.

(PS: the 3.5-5.6 you mention would be the aperture, not shutter speed.)

Enjoy your camera, those 600's are beasts!
Cheers
