Hi Minxy nice to hear from you. Yes Europe is fantastic but extremely expensive for us South Africans. As you can see 144 for a beer. You and Johan are also doing out of this world trips. Keep going girl.

This is truly living the dream. . . . . . and I'm drooling while dreaming. :thumleft:      Well done Schalk :ricky:

Schalk I started reading your thread about a week ago and I am blown away by your adventures.

If you head for Ireland and need a room and a meal for a few days my twin brother lives in Galway and would happily accommodate you mate.

Best Regards,
Andy

Hi Andy thanks for the offer. I love to stay with people along the way, that way you get to know a country so much better. will let you know. Glad you enjoy the RR.

Schalk,
Great to meet you this morning in Hout Bay. Started looking through the book and it sure is inspirational. One thing which struck me on meeting you is just how alive you look. Great to see and it must be due to all the living you're doing. Great to chat to you and I look forward to the next book. Coffee on me next time..
Cheers.

Hi dustlover also great to have met you. I did not know that I am so well known that somebody would recognise me in a coffee shop. Yes I am very much alive and have got a lot of living still to do going around the world. Thanks for buying my book, it helps me to finance my trip.

Hi - Lyk omtrent soos 'n nuwerwetse Livingston se lessenaar  ;D

Ja ek voel soms 'n bietjie soos Livingston wanneer ek deur Afrika reis en ek gaan deur 'n village waar die kinders van 17 jaar nog nooit 'n blanke gesien het nie.

Schalk popped in to see us last week - nice meeting you - eventually  ;D  - and we now STOCK his travel book, we especially like the book because it has a nice MIX between pictures AND text, so very much a visual travel book! Inspirational, Schalk!  :thumleft:

Hi Chris it was also nice to meet you and the team at last. Hope the book will sell well. I still want to come and buy your Australian knife and a set of TCK 80 tyres before I ship my bike across to South America sometime  next year.

The long way down.

As I said before I left Nord Cap for Alta. It was a beautiful day. I traveled through all the tunnels just to come out on the other side next to the sea. A beautiful winding road. The previous cold days caused the bike to run not all that efficient due to it running to cold. Motorrad in Austria never couriered the thermostat as promised to Motorrad in Copenhagen in Denmark. With the exchange rate between the Rand and the Euro I paid dearly and that for zero service. The lady in Copenhagen promised me that she would e mail me the moment the thermostat arrive there. Due the time constrains I could not just sit in one place to wait for parts as my Visa was only for 3 months and I had 18 000 km to cover.

Just after Alta I stopped on a mountain pass at an outlook point to appreciate the beautiful view over the ocean. I young guy from Sweden by the name of Samuel on a V Strom Suzuki also stopped behind me and we started chatting. He was interested in my around the world trip and in no time I sold him my book. I had a whole suite case full and every time I sell one my bike is 700 grams lighter. My books here in Europe sold much easier and at a higher price. 25 Euro = R 375 as appose to R 250 in South Africa.

We then left going South as close to the beautiful coast line as possible but every time I stopped then Samuel also stopped and then we keep on chatting. I could see he was hooked on my stories and when he stopped behind me for the 3 rd time I said to him maybe we should get accommodation at the same place as it was getting late. Samuel could also speak the Norwegian language which was a great help. So in the next small town he enquired and off the main road we got accommodation for 100 Krone R 59-00. What a bargain for such an expensive country. There were a communal kitchen as well with all the utensils etc. The price of beer was much cheaper than in Nord Cap and I bought us a 6 pack at the local filling station. We made food together in the kitchen. We shared a two bed cabin and I don’t know how Samuel handled my snoring but the next day he did not say anything.

We then traveled together again going more South. The scenery again was beautiful. Later on it started raining. Samuel’s Swedish national soccer team was playing an international game and he was looking for a place with Wi Fi. Up in the mountains on a bend we found a real cozy place. Also a two bed cabin with a beautiful cozy restaurant with a view. So we off loaded the bikes in the rain and Samuel went to watch his soccer on his cell phone while live streaming and I had a lovely hot chocolate.
