Any dogs got any experiences to share on Chrysler products? Price and availability of parts. Backup etc.?

I'm considering buying a PT Cruiser diesel (high miles but great condition with FSH), but have never owned this brand before. AFAIK it's a MBenz diesel engine.

Any input much appreciated.

I owned a Jeep Cherokee diesel once, bought new from Chrysler....
The vehicle was not properly serviced, parts were not off the shelf and very expensive.
Had many issues with it and eventually sold it at 85k kms.
Wouldn't touch a Chrysler product with a barge-pole in this country.

Having owned a Cherokee I share your sentiment. Badly designed, badly built and they do not age as well as their Japanese/German counterparts.

Some years ago my buddy bought a Grand Cherokee zero major failures but it was never out of the workshop, a warning light a window that won’t open or randomly opened, etc etc he sold it as although it never broke, he never trusted it, a buddies Jeep dropped the auto box oil cooler, new box another mate a Chrysler Voyager? Dropped the gearbox oil cooler etc. Not my vehicle choice.

The only Chrysler products i'd ever touch are the Wrangler and the Grand Cherokees.

The little jeeps are now rebranded Fiat's basically.

Chrysler specialist in JHB is Cross Country Vehicle Solutions https://ccvs.co.za/

Dunno who specialises in them down there, but try to find an Indy and ask them.

run for the hills...

and even if it's a Merc diesel engine, which it won't be, it wouldn't be a good thing either.

My mechanic, Oom Robin was an ex Orbit (Mercedes & Honda) mechanic for over 25 years before going private after his retirement. His brother in law had a PT Cruiser which he serviced for him. In 2009  the PT Cruiser was there for his 90000km cambelt change. The agents would charge 17 hours of labour for the job, so thats why he brought it to an indy...

turns out Oom Robin had to take off the right hand side wheel, shock, fender, front light, bumper, aircon compressor, disconnect the radiator hoses , battery just to change a cambelt which was worth a few hundred bucks. The whole service took him around 14 - 15 man hours as well. Imagine the family feuds when handing someone that invoice. Luckily he sold the POS soon afterwards.
