Most of you know me, or know of me. Im not short. I hit the ruler at about 1,95 and I've always struggled riding smaller bikes. The AT is luckily a rather big scoot but still cramped up by those horrible foot pegs. Those little thin jobbies that wreck your boots before you know it and just makes it uncomfortable to stand and ride.
I use to have touratech wide foot pegs on my bike. They worked great and is a huge improvement over the stock set. Problem is, finding a set is difficult because our current touratech agent in South Africa, does not know how to keep his word or how to reply to emails. Anyhow, enough about that.
When I got my bike, off came the stock 1inch raisers, pro taper bars and they were replaced with a set of fat bars and some Rox pivot risers. While this was a great improvement, I felt I was still not comfortable. I even added another 2 inch raise underneath my Rox raisers and while I felt comfortable, the bars were just way too high and had a lot of flex. I ended up doing some research and I came to the conclusion that I needed lowered pegs. Problem, nobody made lowered pegs for the Africa twin. Some pegs do indeed lower, but .5cm does not count.
I popped by Mike aka Superfoxi and explained my scenario. He went to his work bench and came back with a set of .... lowered pegs. I grabbed them and rushed home. Fitted them and took them for a ride. I could not believe the difference it made, the pegs itself were wide and comfortable and the were lowered around 2 inches. My bars felt great and my riding position improved. If you have long legs, you end up sitting in an awkward position and this puts stress on your joints. Even when the need arises, now with the lowered pegs, you can stand up much quicker. (Ever tried standing up when your legs are bent further than 90degrees?)
I've put about 5000km on these pegs and I can guarantee you for the price (around R1200) they are worth ever penny.
I've just changed my bars back to the Pro Tapers and removed the pivot raisers. Even now, im fully comfortable riding without my extra goodies. Its amazing what the right bar to peg ratio does. This has just hit the sweet spot!
Mike, you seriously need to consider the rest of the market. The KTM boys will also greatly benefit from these high quality lowered foot pegs. Great job!
This is review is my own honest opinion and not been influenced by anything or anybody.
