My son booked me into a guest lodge in McGregor as a birthday treat.
Yes he paid as well. No choice , but to leave the children behind and go for a ride.

Its amazing how light you can pack when you only have a rucksak- does help not having to schlep a tent etc.
Franchoek for breakfast

Up over the Franchoek pass and onto Theewaterdam. Man I love that pass, it must be my
alltime favourite. Turned off onto gravel roads heading towards Robertson

The local church in Mcgregor

Then headed along the "road to no where" It is a gravel road that was meant to connect
McGregor to Greyton, but was never completed due to lack of funds.
Great ride up the mountain

Next day was on to Bonnievale and then Greyton

Thanks for sharing, McGegor is a wonderfull little village, Friends our ours used to own the Green Gables guest house so have spent one or two lunchers there. Must go ride that area soon.

oh and Happy birthday

Hi DaveH great report sounds like you had a great B/day congrats, mine coming too soon must do likewise and go for an adventure ride.  :)

Happy, happy daveh - seems you had a ball.

That alpie sure looked sexy in that lovely area. I can swear I've been there before, many years ago. Will have to go investigate...

Thanks for the nice report - maybe Journeyman will move down here.

Happy, happy.

Jy kon 'n bier of iets kom drink het, of getooooot  het toe jy verby ry.
Toemaar, nou weet jy waar, ek's die laaste boer voor jy deur die koppe gaan.
Sien jou volgende keer.

The "road to nowhere" actually leads to a very nice hiking trail. Only, don't try it in January, from the Greyton side, at 35 degrees like I did...  :-[

Thanks for all the birthday wishes. Big 50 !!! ??? 8) ;D
Yes Growweblaar, the Greyton to Mcgregor hike does look intimidating, I guess I would rather do the downhill walk. Problem is you need transport at both ends.
