We did a four day ride recently, Windhoek - Spitzkoppe - Messum - Ugab.

Here is a short teaser video - will post the longer one when done.

Enjoy!

One question please - can you ride whole length of Ugab on the bike? And if so, do you need permit for the areas close to the sea? Ta

I don't think it's allowed - Ugab mouth is in Skeleton Coast National Park, where motorcycles are verboten.  I will double-check with MET for you though.  An alternative river ride is doing the Omaruru all the way from just outside Uis to the ocean.

Thanks, will have a look at that  :thumleft:

Sorry, I would like to ask for one more favour if I can - and a bit off topic. Hardy de Kock said in another thread that bikes are allowed to ride from Hoanib river to Palmwag via Crowther 4x4 track. When I was there I was told by the people in Palmwag lodge, as well as by the concession guy staying in the Hoanib river (where the track/concession begins in the north) that it is off limit for bikes. I am aware that these people sometimes give wrong information (for example that Purros canyon is off limit for bikes). Do you know - or is it possible to find out somewhere - what is the real situation with Crowther 4x4 and bikes?

Thanks a mil.

What he said.  You can however ride from the C34 to the Rhino camp close to Brandbergwest mine, westerly direction).  Two places along the river you will have to detour the river via the mountain as it could be impassable.  (Swamp like areas).  I dont have to tell you about the ellies in the river, you are well aware of them.  Just be on the lookout for them as they seem to be a lot more aggresive that the Botswana ellies.  :thumleft:

Lots of misinformation about these things, I know.  SWAMBO works for a large tour operator, I'll ask her to get the details and post back on this thread.

Xpat - It seems that you are not allowed to ride it, as per the concession guide.  I've shared it on my DropBox for you: https://www.dropbox.com/s/1wyqnu57dcc7rzw/PalmwagConcessionAreaMap-2-3.pdf?dl=0

Thank you Damaraland! Not the news I wanted to hear, but it does agree with what I was told before. However the map covers only small area around Palmwag I will try to check with Hardy what he has to say about this as he seemed pretty confident that Crowther trail is allowed - but I think that one is further north..

This is the mail I received from Palmwag lodge specifically asking about the Crowther trial.  Contact details are in there so you are welcome to follow up yourself.  I do hope you are come right and are able to ride and report on it - it does look like fantastic riding!

Dear Desiree

Thank you for your email received!

Attached please find all information regarding the Pamwag Concession area.
Please note that Motorbikes are strictly forbidden in the Concession as there are Lions, Elephants, Leopards and Rhinos roaming freely.

Kind regards

Just back from that area.

No bikes in Palmwag concession (concession runs up to Hoanib) and no access to Uniab at all...this as per leaflet I got at Palmwag.

Also I had to pay N$100 permit exiting the Hoanib on Sesfontein side.

Dont know about Ugab as I just crossed it at Brandberg Wes at the Rhino Trust Camp.
