This morning I decided to take a leisurely ride to clear my head and do some thinking. I headed out from Northgate past Kloofzicht, through Kromdraai past the Cradle.  I had breakfast at Auto Cradle Estate where I bumped into Wheelman – nice meeting you :thumleft:

One of the nicest routes in this neck of the woods must be the R400 that takes you past all the CSIR dishes, reminding me of Contact every time I go past there.  There a gravel urge got the better of me and I was once again surprised at how beautiful parts of Gauteng and the adjacent North West province can be (with the help of some rain, that is).

There is a lovely little gravel pass that links the R400 with the R560.

From there I opted for some more gravel all the way to Breedtsnek.

The view from the top of Breedtsnek was splendid, as ever.  Lovely ride up, a bit more tricky going down, but even I could do it on the overweight pig.

And quite a lovely morning spent clearing my head and enjoying the back roads.  :thumleft:

Your 2nd and 3rd photo is what I was referring to as "tricky".  There were two bikers sitting on the rock in the top left hand corner of your photos watching me descend.  In my minds eye I was saw myself cart wheeling down there and past them, but luckily that did not happen.

Indeed I am. Everytime I ride the bike I am reminded of what an awesome piece of machinery it is. It just goes and goes.

Dankie Rooies- baie nice. Ja nee foto's vertel nooit die ware storie nie- dis net 2 dimensioneel en mens sien die diepte moeilik raak.

Jy moet my seblief eendag daai paaie gaan wys (en ken net Breedtsnek).

Thanks! I agree, both are nice routes for a quicky in our area - just be careful of the effect that summer rainstorms can have on the quality of these gravelroads! :thumleft:
