Tyre feedback: So I recently did the Putfoot Rally around Southern Africa (7 countries) and I asked Darren for a recommendation on tyres. He suggested the new E07 on the rear and an E10 on the front. I took the advice and damn, was I impressed!

The standard Conti's on the 1290R and really great with good all round handling, however the lifespan just doesn't cut it. The Mitas combination has equally good handling and still has life in them after the trip.

The first day we hit gravel after crossing into Namibia up to the Roadhouse Canyon. My first impression - wow, they are great on the gravel without deflating. I ran 2.4 on the front and 2.9 on the rear - 2up and fully loaded with luggage. After the first week I was bit concerned as I had only done 3500km's and the rear E07 was looking a bit worn. A quick message with Darren and he assured me that the first half of the tyre wears quicker. I must add that I rode hard for the entire trip, opening that 1290R at every opportunity and breaking hard in the twisties.

Overall I did just on 8500kms, of which 2000kms was gravel/sand and there is still 1.5mm on the rear and 2.5mm on the front - that would probably do another 1500kms with ease. Will I buy another set - for sure! And so too would my mate who was on a 990 and was equally impressed.

Conditions on route - cold, moderate, hot, rain, smooth tar, rough tar, no tar (Mozambique infamous highways), gravel, sand and I never once felt uneasy and that's 2Up, fully loaded and almost keeping up with my new mates who really know how to ride.
