Recently when Mick and Tanya (www.earths-ends.com) were here and we were discussing packing light for extended journeys, they told me about mohair clothing. The big benefit is that it does not absorb body odour for a few days but also it is resistant to misty rain and helps to control body temperature.

I have been using mohair socks (warm - even when wet) but could find no mohair clothing locally. I had a long sleeve T-shirt sent over from Aus and used it recently on a trip to Zim. I wore it every day for 8 days and when I got home my wife and some of her friends gave it the sniff test and were impressed. (No! Not by my manly odour but by the lack of it.) I also found that it was cool during the day but warm in the evenings. I must admit I am impressed as now I can cut down on T-shirts or riding shirts that I pack.

Big downside is the cost! My daughter in London fortunately found some for me on a sale. The normal price for a T-shirt is around 50 Pounds!!!! There is a full range - socks, pants, undies, shirts, etc available. Brand I got is Icebreaker but there are others.

The other problem is because they are woven (knitted) the stitches run if snagged,.

I cannot find a SA supplier. Do any Dogs know of one? Maybe a business opportunity to supply specialised clothing to the rich and (not so) famous!
