There are some unscrupulous (or just Nigerian) operators currently operating on Gumtree and they recently advertised a few DS motorcycles and jetskies at less than half price.
BMW 1200gs Adventure for 50k with pictures
KTM950se for R28k with pictures
Yamaha 800cc Waverunner with Trailer for 35k with pictures
Sounds like a joke anyway at those low prices. I sent an e-mail to him and asked if he had made a mistake?
After 3 hours the adverts disappeared.
They give UK mobile numbers and legit peoples names (Benjamin White) and SA ID numbers (I checked the ID number out) - Then they claim to have immigrated to the UK and have been left the items in a will and have no use for them.
I called several times and they never answer the mobile, but e-mail me within minutes
I wanted to play this out to see how they scam the cash:
Here's how?
They claim to want to do a secure transaction through AlertPay.com
Alert Pay.com is a secure website that handle business transactions, in a secure manner between two parties and once the goods are delivered, they release the funds – so they claim
When I said I had a friend in Pietersberg who can come over immediately to view the bike – this Benjamin White character claimed it was already crated and it would cost R3000 to un pack LOL !!!!!
Benjamin White then asked me to pay a 50% deposit for the KTM 950se, R14000 to Alert Pay and they would send the bike from Pietersberg by courier. I then have 5 days to check it out and then Alert Pay will require the balance.
I was guaranteed of 100% cash back if I didn’t want the bike.
I initiated the transaction with a fake address and contact details.
Within in hours I received a very authentic looking Alert Pay e-mail directing me to the ”Secure” payment page, fully branded with Alert Pay logos, but obviously fake.
How you can tell it was a fake website:
The Alert Pay Authentication logo and “Padlock” symbol is missing from the Browser search bar,
If you right click on the logos and view properties, they come from a “Photobucket” account.
On the pay page it reads:
Due to the strict South Africa's policyes about sending money outside the country, you might encounter some problems sending the money trough Money Gram! To avoid that to happen, we encourage you to send the money as a gift or to say the money is for a friend or relative, that way they will allow the transaction to go smoothly without any problems!
So, when sending the money to our assigned agent, ANDREW STUART, London, United Kingdom, send it as you were to send it to a friend to avoid complications at the Money Gram office!
Benjamin White then sent several e-mails claiming I should hurry up and pay the R14 000 as there are 3 other people about to do the transaction and I might loose this one in a life time offer.
I never replied and obviously never paid :mwink:
I wonder if they have caught and stupid idiots ?
BE WARNED, they now using fake PAYPAL pages as well.
