Strangely BMW does not offer crash bars as on option on these bikes and also does not have any on their accessory list.  Most of the crash bars on sale on offers protection for the engine and not the expensive plastic bodywork.  I fell for the  bars by SW-Motech which just became available.   They protect both engine and bodywork and quality (made and imported from Germany) seems first class.  Not cheap at R2000 but I am sure that they can save much more in the long run.  I hope  I don't have to test them too soon.  I fitted them myself in just over an hour.  It is a bit of a schlepp to figure out where all the spacers and different  nuts and bolts should go, but the instructions leaflet in German and English is not too complicated.  I attach some photo's.... ;D ;D ;D
