Rainy/cloudy days only affects the power output of the solar panels by a small percentage. I have not seen a drop of more than 25% except in extreme conditions and that was very rare.

That is not my experience. A few days ago we had a rainy day, no sun at all. My panels produced 2.8KW for the day.
Today a nice sunny day, some clouds in the afternoon. Yield was 19,4 KW. A full sunshine day should produce more that 20KW.

I have 18 x 250w panels, which is 6 years old.

We washed the panels this morning. Last wash was 16 months ago. Previous highest yield since December 2021 was 17.5KW. A frequent wash should be high on the agenda.

This has been a good read, I am VERY new to the solar setups etc and still trying to do my homework so that i can one day tell Eishkom to F&^%# off.
Quick question I see the amount of panels you have installed = 8460 watts and on good days your producing close to 7000 watts - Is the difference just lost due to efficiencies etc?

Losses due to suboptimal mounting of panels, (orienatation, angle to horisontal), heat (production decreases with heat), conversion from DC to AC and back, typically 20 to 25%

6 years old....have you noticed a decrease in efficiency of your panels?

Is your batteries also 6 years old? Any efficiency drops there?

I am trying to see about this 10yr story, if it will really be necessary to replace batteries every 10yrs...

I doubt that we will have the same technology, there is already talk of alternatives to lithium.
